38 LTTE cadres, 3 soldiers killed in Lanka clashes

In an ongoing intense clash between Tamil Tigers and soldiers, at least thirty eight Tamil Tigers and three Sri Lankan soldiers have been killed across the island nation’s volatile north.

While eight LTTE rebels were killed in Palamodia in Vavuniya on Wednesday, seven soldiers were also reported injured in the incident, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.

In another incident in the region on Wednesday, troops killed two tiger rebels while losing two of their soldiers, the MCNS said.

One army personnel was killed in another clash in the region on Wednesday, the Defence Ministry said.

At least three LTTE cadres were killed during confrontations in Navvi in Vavuniya on Wednesday, the military said.

As many as two rebels were killed and one injured during a confrontation in Ampadankulam area on Wednesday, it said, adding one rebel was killed during a confrontation in Nadankandal area in the same region.

On the Welioya front, troops had day-long clashes with LTTE in the north of Kiriibbanwewa and north of Janakapura areas and said six rebels were killed and 14 others wounded, it said.

“On the Mannar front, troops attacked LTTE positions in the South of Vedithalthivu and Puliyankulama, areas and said 10 cadres were killed and 6 wounded,” it said.

Meanwhile, the (MCNS) said troops have successfully captured five LTTE bunkers located in Mathirmadu area in Mannar on Wednesday.

As many as six tiger rebels were killed in two different incidents of confrontations in the regions on Wednesday, it said.
