Thiruvananthapuram: To attend the 97th Indian Science Congress in Kerala, around 7,000 researchers from India and abroad are expected. The Congress is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 3.

Jointly hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the University of Kerala, the highlights of the five-day conference include symposiums, sessions for science journalists and children, university meeting, exhibition and a space summit, organisers said yesterday.

This is the first time Thiruvananthapuram will host the science congress and the second time in Kerala.

Former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair is the general president of the
Congress this year and Kerala University vice-chancellor A Jayakrishnan is the co-chair of the apex advisory board.
