Assam observed a fresh outbreak of the deadly bird flu in poultry today. The authorities seem to be all set to pick the thousands of affected chickens, said an official.
Ashim Kumar Kakoty, a top veterinary official in Assam says, “Yes, bird flu has spread to new areas, we are getting ready to start culling in those areas shortly”. The village is located at 35 km west of Guwahati.
More than 20 villages of the state have already seen slaughtering of more than 40000 chickens and ducks over the weekend as the capital city Guwahati was attacked by bird flu.
The new outbreak came to be suspected after some poultry deaths were reported in Palasbari.
“The newly affected areas cover about 20 villages,” said Kakoty.
As the officials initiate precautionary measures in the state, sale and movement of poultry has been banned in and around Guwahati.
Health workers have also moved to affected areas in order to check people for any symptoms of flu.
No human infections have been reported in India till now.
