manmohan singh and sonai gandhi Cong Core Group meets in Delhi to decide on LS Speaker nominee Top leadership of Congress, including PM Manmohan Singh and party chief Sonia Gandhi, met in New Delhi on Saturday to finalise the name for the post of the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The meeting of the Congress Core Group was held at the residence of the Prime Minister on Saturday afternoon.

Besides Gandhi and Singh, other leaders who attended the meeting included Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister A K Antony.

Kishore Chandra Deo, a senior Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh, is the front runner for the post.

The Congress leadership also discussed whether the post of Deputy Speakership should be given to the Opposition as per convention or to some ally.
