First swine flu death in Kanpur

Kanpur: Kanpur has reportedly experienced first swine flu death. The deceased has been identified as Kavita Rana, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, had arrived here 15 days back.

According to the reports, eight people have been tested positive for the disease. Doctor Shailendra Tiwari, in-charge of the medical team here, said the woman was admitted to a private nursing home on December 8.

The remaining positive cases were being treated at various hospitals here, he said. The Sanjay Gandhi PGI has been fixed as a nodal point for suspected flu cases.

Earlier, the pregnant woman’s condition became critical after she delivered and later died at the nursing home, he said, adding the cause of her death had been ascertained by a New Delhi-based pathological laboratory.
