The Congress has distanced itself from reports that it had expressed reservations over induction of any individual in the Union Cabinet.
“Congress has never expressed any reservation about any individual. It is the prerogative of the concerned party to whom it wanted to give representation,” party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said in New Delhi on Friday.
His statement came in the backdrop of reports that the Congress was against induction of T R Baalu and A Raja, Ministers of the DMK in the outgoing government.
Government formation had got into trouble on Thursday night with DMK refusing to join the Ministry after talks with Congress on portfolio allocation were deadlocked on the eve of the swearing-in of Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister for a second consecutive term.
Reminiscent of the scenes witnessed on the eve of government formation in 2004, the DMK has announced that it was not agreeable to Congress “formula” on ministerial allocation and would extend outside support to the government.
