GOLDSBORO: At a state-operated mental hospital 3 employees were fired following the death of patient after negligence.
Steven H. Sabock, 50, of Roanoke Rapids, who had a bipolar disorder died April 29 after choking on medication at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro.
Three employees were fired in this case. It’s proved now that employees neglected their duty and kept playing cards and watching television, when the patient’s situation was bad enough.
State officials said 10 other employees were disciplined. A criminal investigation was started by the State Bureau of Investigation in August.
The state medical examiner concluded that Sabock died of a pre-existing heart condition. The autopsy report said the patient’s brain had a mild accumulation of fluid that can indicate injury.
