Meerut, July 9 (IANS) Three staffers of a private hospital were arrested here after they allegedly gangraped a 21-year-old woman admitted to the hospital’s ICU, police said Monday.
“We have arrested three people – Ashok, Devendra and Depti Singh – for raping a woman patient in a private hospital’s ICU,” Inspector General of Police (Meerut Range) V.K. Gupta told IANS.
The incident came to light when the victim, admitted Saturday to the ICU of M. Prakash Nursing Home here with severe breathlessness, narrated the incident to her parents after gaining consciousness late Sunday evening.
The victim said she was assaulted on the night of July 7 when three ward boys tied her up to the bed and gangraped her.
According to Gupta, the victim in her complaint said: “She had been sedated when she was admitted Saturday evening and when she woke up on Sunday evening, she saw one of the accused touching her intimately, while other two ward boys looked on from outside the ICU.”
She narrated the incident to her parents and relatives, following which they went on a rampage and smashed the windowpanes of the hospital demanding immediate action against the accused.
The victim was later admitted to another hospital, where a medical examination confirmed the rape.
Gupta added that the hospital has been sealed and a medical team, headed by a woman gynaecologist, has been constituted to assist in investigating the case.
The hospital management was not available for comment.
