Kolkata: The West Bengal government passed the controversial Rural Health Regulatory Authority Bill 2009 in the state assembly on Wednesday by majority vote.

The Bill will permit “rural health practitioners” with a three-year diploma to treat patients in villages where qualified doctors are loath to go.As soon as the bill was passed it resulted in an immediate walkout by the Trinamool Congress and Congress.
Surya Kanta Mishra,Health Minister later said that to satisfy the rural health care needs the Government has taken this step.He further accused the opposition of creating confusion.
He also denied the fact that state government was discriminating against people in rural areas and it would continue to send qualified doctors to villages.
